Mustard season is winter’s quiet workhorse in Napa Mustard season is winter’s quiet workhorse in Napa Valley. Between the dormant vines, mustard grows as a natural cover crop — helping prevent erosion, improving soil structure, and adding organic matter back into the earth when it’s turned in.It’s one of the early steps that helps set the stage for a healthy growing season and expressive wines to come.
Sun Chase. Petaluma Gap at its finest.Pinot lege Sun Chase. Petaluma Gap at its finest.Pinot legend Greg La Follette knew this site was special. Alex Guarachi loved it enough to buy it. We’ve been all-in for over a decade. For Valentine’s, we pulled just 10 cases of our 2018 Sun Chase Pinot Noir from the library. Packed with deep black cherry, spice, and beautiful texture. Jeb Dunnuck (95 pts) called out its La Tâche-like sexiness with black raspberry, framboise, spice, and floral notes.Drinking beautifully right now — but it will go fast.2018 Carte Blanche Sun Chase Pinot Noir — Petaluma Gap

Blending sessions are where a wine truly starts to Blending sessions are where a wine truly starts to take its final shape. Recently, we spent time with Philippe, tasting through individual lots, comparing components, and evaluating how each parcel contributes to the whole. Small adjustments—sometimes just a few percentage points—can shift texture, balance, and aromatic expression in meaningful ways. This process isn’t about making the wine bigger or louder, but more precise. We look at structure, acidity, tannin, and how the wine carries across the palate, always with an eye toward ageability and a clear sense of place. These thoughtful decisions, made long before bottling, are what allow each Carte Blanche wine to express its vineyard, vintage, and intent.
Long blending days benefit from a quick reset. Bet Long blending days benefit from a quick reset. Between sessions, Nick and Philippe grabbed a coffee and took a walk through St. Helena—clearing the mind before heading back to the cellar. Blending is an art, one we take very seriously and with great intention. It’s the final piece to the puzzle before the wines are bottled and ready to be sent to your home.

Between the quiet rows of dormant vines, the musta Between the quiet rows of dormant vines, the mustard is back—painting the vineyard floor gold across Napa Valley. It’s not just a pretty winter moment. Mustard acts as a natural cover crop, loosening compacted soils, improving drainage, and drawing nutrients up from deep below. When it’s turned back into the earth, it feeds the soil, boosts organic matter, and helps suppress pests and weeds—setting the stage for healthier vines come spring.#vineyards #vines #wine #winery #napavalley

Winter in the vineyard arrives with rain—and purpo Winter in the vineyard arrives with rain—and purpose. Seasonal storms replenish groundwater, allowing nutrients stored deep beneath the valley floor to move back into the root zone. While the vines rest in dormancy, their roots remain active, absorbing water and essential minerals that will fuel budbreak and early shoot growth in the months ahead. After the rains, rainbows often follow—a quiet reminder that this slow, soaking season is doing the most important work of the year.📸: @garretmurphyphotography
